I just saw the Princess and the Frog. I absolutely loved it. It was everything I hoped it would be and nothing that I feared it would be.
The music was just beautiful; truly Randy Newman knew what he was doing. It sets the tone so well that I felt the mood of every scene perfectly. The setting (1920's New Orleans), and the great genre of music that comes with it, was well applied in the soundtrack. In fact, I might actually buy the whole soundtrack. Great job there, Disney!
Characters, characters... First off, I love Dr. Facilier. He's right up there with Jafar as possibly one of the coolest villains in Disney history on my list. Okay, okay, maybe that's overreaching a tad, but COME ON. The guy's a voodoo witch doctor bent on feeding the souls of all the people in New Orleans to the shadows of HELL. He's suave and insane at the same time, a deadly, charismatic combination for a truly likable villain character.
And at least he didn't die by being uncool and falling off something like, what, 3/4 of the Disney villians... Tiana herself, the strong lead heroine, is a real inspiration for young girls in my opinion. She strives to work as hard as she can to fulfill her dream of opening a restaraunt, but learns in the end that to really fulfill your dreams you need to work hard AND know what's really important: having love and support in your life. Cheesy? Yes. Disney? YES. And absolutely, positively true, might I add.
Naveen was... well, uh... okay, he annoyed me at first. A LOT. but I warmed up to him. He spends most of the movie as a frog anyway
instead of a handsome, stupid, womanizing, lazy bum, so that gave me a chance to like him a bit. He's a cute character. Louis the Alligator was very funny, even if sometimes he was a bit hit&miss. Mama Odie was eccentric and very, very warm; her personality is similarly charismatic to Facilier's, but she is still able to distinguish herself as the "good" voodoo witch doctor. Charlotte Laboufe *or however the heck you spell it* is sufficiently hyper and spoiled-rotten, while at the same time she has a likable sweetness to her. She truly cares about Tiana, and they've been friends since they were just small children, stressing the importance of friendship that transcends time and social status. Again, cheesy and Disney, but at the same time, so well carried out that you honestly don't feel the need to complain.
Ray, or Raymond, the Cajun firefly, was so funny and a well-written character, being in love with the Evening Star and naming it Evangeline, and... I... *sniff* I like his character b-because...
W-WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

I'm gonna let you figure out what just happened... *sniff*
Possibly the only reason I would hate Dr. Facilier...Anyway, the story itself seemed simple, to the point, stressed good morals, and was truly Disney. Tiana is a good, strong lead, like to Belle in independence and with a powerful personal drive. Dr. Facilier is a reall cool villain, and the cast, both voice and character, are really well done. Overall, great job, Disney! I knew you could do it!
